A Practical, Education-First Approach to the Home

Why I created Healthy Home Day

A healthier-feeling home starts with knowing what to notice.

Your home is where you breathe, move, rest, work, gather and recover.

Yet most of us were never taught much about the everyday conditions that shape the environment inside it.

I created Healthy Home Day after becoming increasingly curious about indoor air and the things that influence it—particles and dust, humidity, airflow, ventilation, surfaces, products, equipment and the habits that repeat day after day.

The more I learned, the more I saw a gap.

There is an extraordinary amount of credible information about indoor air, water, environmental exposures and the home.

But much of that knowledge lives in separate worlds.

Somewhere in the middle is the homeowner asking a very reasonable question:

What does all of this mean for my home, and what should I actually do?

Healthy Home Day was created to help bridge that gap.

My Path Here Was a Little Unusual

My background combines more than 25 years in business communications and technology with many years spent teaching yoga and yoga therapy.

Those may seem like very different worlds, but both taught me to think in systems.

Technology taught me to look at how individual parts connect and affect one another.

Yoga and yoga therapy taught me to observe patterns, rhythm, environment and the effect of small changes over time.

Eventually, that same curiosity turned toward the place where we spend most of our lives: the home.

I don’t approach Healthy Home Day as a scientist, physician or home-service professional.

My role is different: to find credible information, connect the dots, translate what we’re learning into practical homeowner education, and help people recognize when the next step belongs with a qualified professional.

A Simple Way to Look at the Home

Healthy Home Day looks at everyday spaces through three ideas:

Load — what may be entering or building up in the space
Flow — how air and moisture move
Rhythm — how activities, habits, weather and time shape conditions

Our homeowner journey is equally simple:

Know. Observe. Reduce. Verify.

Learn what matters. Notice what’s happening. Make reasonable changes. See whether they make a difference.

The goal isn’t a perfect home.

It’s a better-informed homeowner who can make practical decisions about what to do, what can wait, and when professional expertise may be helpful.

Start With One Room

Healthy Home Day provides practical, education-first guidance. It is not medical advice, mold testing, remediation or a formal home inspection.

You don’t have to understand your entire home at once.

Start with one everyday space. Notice what’s happening. Ask better questions. Take one useful next step.
